A Long Island man has died following a fire at his home.
The blaze broke out around 9:49 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, in Hampton Bays, said Southampton Police Lt. Susan Ralph.
When firefighters arrived on the scene at Mildred Place, they found black smoke coming from the windows of the residence, and by the time police arrived on the scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames, Ralph said.
Ralph said the unidentified man was pulled from the residence and was tended to by Hampton Bays Ambulance personnel and then transported to an area hospital where he died.
The Hampton Bays Fire Department, Southampton Town Patrol Units, and Southampton Town Fire Marshals responded.
Additional fire departments and ambulances responded to assist including the Flanders Volunteer Ambulance, Westhampton Ambulance, East Moriches Ambulance, Southampton Fire Department, Flanders Fire Department, East Quogue Fire Department, and Southampton Fire Department.
The Suffolk County Police Arson Squad has been requested to look further into the cause of the fire.
